What is a Soil Mineral Test?

A soil test is the analysis of a soil sample to determine the mineral and nutrient content, composition, and other characteristics such as the pH level. A soil test determines the fertility or the expected growth potential of the soil which indicates nutrient deficiencies.

Soils are tested for pH Level, Organic Matter and the primary nutrients Phosphorus (P), Potassium (K), calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), and sulphur (S), and for other trace elements required in very small amounts by crops such as boron (B), copper (Cu), iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), molybdenum (Mo), and zinc (Zn).

Interestingly Nitrogen (N) is not tested for, as it’s too unstable and is constantly changing.

Step to having a Mineral Soil Test –

1 – Take a soil sample from the area you are wanting to check fertility. – How to take a soil sample.

2 – Send the soil sample to Soil Foods.

3 – We send soil sample to the laboratory for analysis.

4 – We get the soil mineral analysis back from the laboratory.

5 – We interpreted the result and then determine what mineral and trace elements are needed to get the soil back into balance.

6 – A detailed report with a soil prescription and recommendations are sent to you.
